Sebergham & Welton Broadband
Background
Following the anouncment that Cumbria has been selected by the government as a pilot area for the rollout of a super fast broadband service to rural areas, our parish has joined forces with other parishes in the northern fells area to form a larger group known as ‘Northern Fells Broadband’ (NFB).
NFB is currently working to secure funding for a high speed broadband network across our area, while at the same time looking at the various technical solutions which may make this possible.
As part of this process, NFB needs to establish if there is a need within the northern fells area for a better broadband service. Householders within the parish are encouraged to registered their interest in a better service by visting the NFB website and clicking on 'Register'.

Currently 85% of households in Sebergham and Welton parish have registered their interest in the project.
Latest
NFB has been awarded technical pilot status, and has consequently been invited to apply for a significant amount of funding. An outline application has already been made with a more comprehensive application to be made by the end of 2011. At this stage NFB will be required to have formed a legal company or charity to manage the project.
In order to assist in what is becoming quite a complex project, a group of consultants have been appointed to help with the procurement of finance and the building of business plans. This is financed by The Department of Culture, Media, and Sport.
NFB has written to all parish councils in the Northern Fells area asking for a donation to help fund it's work, as in the near future it may have to obtain legal advice of the formation of a company.
More information can obtained form the NFB website.
